With Rail Strike Off, Amtrak Resets

Now that a freight railroad strike has been avoided, Amtrak, the national passenger train operator, says it is working to quickly restore canceled long distance passenger trains and reach out to impacted customers to accommodate on first available departures.

The Amtrak "California Zephyr" serves Omaha/Council Bluffs and Lincoln over the B-N-S-F Railroad on a daily run from Chicago to the West Coast.

The Zephyr also runs on the B-N-S-F on a southern Iowa route serving Burlington, Ottumwa, and Creston among others.

The Amtrak "Southwest Chief" hits southeast Iowa at Fort Madison;

Amtrak mostly runs on the freight railroads trackage, depending on them for signalling and dispatching, and had shut down some long distance routes in case there was a work stoppage.
