Omaha Mayor Sends Unsigned Message On Two Proposals

Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert returns Climate Action Plan and protected bike lane resolutions to the Omaha City Council without her signature.

The City Home Rule Charter gives the Mayor the option to return the resolutions unsigned, indicating she does not agree with the intent of the resolution.

One of the two resolutions would have extended the protected bike lane pilot program for another 18 months.

The Mayor says she supports a permanent protected bike lane somewhere in the urban core, but disagrees with the program extension.

She says the program gathered enough information for a decision on where the protected lane should go.

The second resolution was a measure supporting a 2022 general fund payment for a consultant to develop a Climate Action Plan.

Stothert supports the plan, but, in a letter, says the payment for the consultant needs to be a 2023 expense.
