Nebraska Congressman Don Bacon recovering following emergency appendectomy

(Washington, D.C.) -- Nebraska Congressman Don Bacon is recovering following emergency surgery.

Bacon's office says Wednesday night, the Congressman was taken to Walter Reed Hospital for "intense abdominal pain." There, Bacon underwent an emergency appendectomy, which he described as a "home run."

In a statement from Congressman Bacon, he thanked the medical team at Walter Reed and said he's looking forward to a full recovery and a quick return to work. Bacon's office says he is expected to be released on Thursday.

Bacon's opponent in the upcoming November midterms, Nebraska State Senator Tony Vargas, wished him a speedy recovery.
