The State Department of Transportation says Nebraska’s plan to create a network of electric vehicle charging stations as part of the "National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Formula Program" receives approval from the U.S. Federal Highway Administration.
That means Nebraska will receive approximately $6 million per year for the next five years for EV charging stations.
The plan will be reviewed and evaluated on a yearly basis.
Nebraska will also be able to compete for a portion of an additional $2.5 billion in discretionary grant funding.
Funds will go through NDOT, and the focus for the first year will be on the Nebraska I-80 corridor, as well as Nebraska Highway 31 and U.S. Highway 6/Dodge Street in the Omaha metro area.
Each station will have at least four direct current, fast-charging ports at a publicly accessible business.
