(Story County, IA) -- Iowa farmers are beginning to harvest corn and soybean fields, prompting some friendly reminders from law enforcement. Captain Nick Lennie of the Story County Sheriff's Office says distracted driving and impatient driving are the top two factors in collisions between motor vehicles and farm vehicles.

He says the distracted driver, using a cell phone, is more likely to get in a rear-end crash. He says the impatient driver could be a extreme risk when they pass slow moving farm equipment in a no passing zone.

Captain Lennie also reminds farmers to take precautions, such as towing the equipment, moving slow, large equipment at times when there's little traffic and making sure they have the proper lighting and safety equipment. He says those triangle safety decals get faded overtime and are less effective.

He also reminds drivers to watch for deer, which will be on the move as farmers harvest corn crops.
