Omaha Expert Talks About Plants And Expected Frost

A Freeze Warning will be in effect from one a.m. to nine a.m. Saturday;

The warning is for portions of southeast, east central, and northeast Nebraska, along with portions of southwest Iowa.

It includes Omaha/Council Bluffs, and Lincoln.

The Omaha National Weather Service office in Valley says below freezing temperatures are possible overnight into Saturday morning.

They say freeze conditions will kill sensitive vegetation, so take steps to protect any tender plants from the cold.

A Metro Omaha horticulturalist says bringing out the garden coverings tonight could pay off.

"In this case, looking at all the different weather forecasts, we're going to have two more weeks of good, sunny days and warmer temperatures," University of Nebraska Extension Educator John Fech tells KFAB Radio News.

Fech says before covering the plants tonight, make sure they are watered and even put down some mulch to hold in soil temperatures.
