Case of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Confirmed in Dallas County

(Dallas County, IA) -- State and federal agencies have confirmed the positive case of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in Dallas County.

The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship as well as the United States Department of Agriculture and Animal and Plant Health Inspection service say the case was found in a non-commercial backyard flock and is the first confirmed case in Dallas County. The virus in backyard flock in Iowa hasn't been seen in more than five months. The last confirmed case in a backyard flock was on May 2nd.

Backyard flock owners are urged to limit contact between their birds and wild birds to prevent the spread of the virus.
