The Omaha office of the National Weather Service says the badly needed rains have come in with a cold front and the first snow of the year is also expected in the early Saturday morning hours.
They say the snow will be roughly along and southeast of a line from Lincoln to Omaha/Council Bluffs into western Iowa.

The forecasters say a sharp warm up should happen early next week ahead of the next storm system that should arrive by Thursday.
