More and Less Drought in Iowa This Week

DES MOINES, Iowa -- This week's U-S Drought Map is a tale of where it rained last week, and where it didn't.

Conditions in Eastern, Southeast, and Central Iowa improve after some places saw as much as much as four inches of rain last Friday and Saturday. Parts of Eastern and Northeast Iowa are now drought-free.

The other half of Iowa is a different story, where a mostly dry week there sees drought conditions worsen.

Extreme drought conditions are expanding in Northwest Iowa, while Monona County joins Woodbury County with areas of exceptional drought.

A cold front sweeping across the state Thursday may bring rain to some parts of Iowa.
