Douglas County Health Department reports first adult flu death

(Omaha, NE) -- The Douglas County Health Department reported their first adult flu death of the season. The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services said its the second death related to influenza statewide.

DCHD said high flu activity is widespread across Nebraska, after several weeks of consistent growth. Influenza is spreading alongside other respiratory illnesses, such as COVID-19 and RSV. Respiratory Syncytial Virus remains high in Douglas County, with more than 700 cases in the last week. According to the department, flu-related hospitalizations are the highest than they've been in a decade.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends getting a flu shot yearly, saying its safe to get a COVID-19 vaccine or booster on the same day.
