(Lincoln, NE) -- Lincoln Police are looking for two suspects who they say stole a car and used it to ram a police cruiser.
LPD says around 11:30 Tuesday night, an officer on routine patrol located a Hyundai Sonata, which had been reported stolen on November 26 from a fraternity on UNL campus after it was left running with the keys in it. Police say additional officers were called to the area prior to contact being attempted. Investigators say as the vehicle left the area a few minutes later, the officer attempted to pull the vehicle over near 28th & Clinton, but the vehicle failed to stop.
Police say stop Sticks were deployed at 27 & Potter, and the vehicle drove over them ultimately deflating one of the tires, however it continued to flee. LPD says the vehicle eventually pulled on to a dead-end street near 17th & Y, where it briefly stopped. Investigators say an officer exited his cruiser and began to approach, when the vehicle quickly backed up and rammed the police cruiser before fleeing again. Police say as the vehicle fled the area, a passenger pointed a handgun at another officer.
LPD says the pursuit was terminated at 35th & Vine, and the vehicle was last seen southbound from the area.Police say just after 11:45, the vehicle was found abandoned in a construction zone near 35th & T Street. Damage to the police cruiser estimated at $5,000.
