Nebraska State Patrol investigating officer involved shooting

(Gering, NE) -- The Nebraska State Patrol takes over an investigation into a western Nebraska officer-involved shooting.

The NSP says around 11:30 MT Thursday morning, Gering Police officers were called to a home for a report of a man threatening self-harm. The state patrol says their preliminary investigation indicates that as officers were contacting the man, 53 year old Dannie Emrick, he pointed a gun at officers. Investigators say at that time, an officer discharged his service weapon multiple times, hitting Emrick. The NSP says officers then immediately rendered medical aid.

Emrick was transported to Regional West Medical Center by Valley Ambulance, where investigators say he remains in stable condition. The Gering Police Department requested that the Nebraska State Patrol Special Investigations Team conduct an investigation into the incident.

The investigation remains ongoing.
