(Davenport, IA) -- The Davenport Community School District board votes to close three elementary schools.

In a 5-2 vote, the board voted to close Buchanan, Monroe, and Washington elementary schools at the end of this school year. The board approved the closure of Monroe and Washington based on the age of the building and the cost of maintenance. Buchanan is currently seeing the lowest enrollment of students in the area. The district will vote in January to re-draw boundaries for where students in the district will attend elementary school.

That vote is scheduled for January 8th and will affect roughly 1,000 students.
