Iowa Issues Emergency Order After Marengo Explosion & Fire

(Des Moines, IA) -- The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has issued an Emergency Order to the owners of a plant that caught fire in Marengo last week. The order calls for the company, C6-Zero Iowa LLC to stabilize hazardous conditions and remove all solid waste on-site. An explosion and fire at the plant December 8th sent multiple people to the hospital.

The order requires the company to

“...clear threat to public health and the environment” in the facility’s current condition and the possibility of “another catastrophic event” due to chemicals still inside the building."

The Emergency Order also requires the full remediation of the area.

The Emergency Order outlines interactions between C6-Zero and the Environmental Protection Agency and the DNR beginning December 3, 2020 through December 15, 2022.
