(Kearney, NE) -- Two Colorado juveniles are apprehended after a pursuit in central Nebraska Monday night.
The Nebraska State Patrol says just after 9:30 Monday night, a trooper observed a Nissan Pathfinder eastbound on Interstate 80 going only about 35 miles per hour. The state patrol says the trooper attempted to pull the vehicle over near Kearney, but the vehicle accelerated and fled at a high rate of speed. NSP says the trooper then initiated a pursuit.
Investigators say the vehicle reached speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour as it fled eastbound on I-80, but another trooper was able to successfully deploy stop sticks to slow the vehicle. The state patrol says the suspect vehicle then exited I-80 at the Shelton interchange and began driving northbound at slower speeds. The NSP says a short time later, the trooper was able to successfully perform a tactical vehicle intervention to bring the vehicle to a stop.
The driver, a 13 year old girl, and the passenger, an 11-year-old boy, were taken into custody. Investigators say troopers located a firearm in the vehicle as well as a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The NSP says the pursuit lasted approximately 16 minutes.
