(Marion, IA) -- The city of Marion is planning on demolishing the old Marion Public Library building this summer. Iowa's News Now reports the Marion City Council approved the demo of the building at 1096 6th Avenue at last Thursday's meeting. Bids are due by February 14, 2023. It's been estimated the project could cost $500,000. The old library was heavily damaged in the August 10th, 2020 derecho. Marion opened a new library in November 2022.
The city is expecting the building to be demolished by May 26th.
