(Des Moines, IA) -- A Des Moines man who faked his own death to avoid child pornography charges is sentenced to 20 years in federal prison.

27-year-old Jacob Chance Greer was convicted of knowingly receiving child pornography. The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Greer was initially arrested in 2016 on federal child pornography charges. While awaiting trial, Greer disappeared after leaving a suicide note in his abandoned car near a lake in Dallas County.

Six years later, he was arrested in Spanaway, Washington.

The investigation began in 2014.

Greer must register as a sex offender, pay $12,000 in restitution to the victims, and serve five years of supervised release after his prison term.
