Police Seek More Info In Active Shooter Investigation

The Omaha Police Department urges anyone who was at the scene during the Tuesday west Omaha active shooter incident, who did not speak with officers, to call 402-444-4877 to share any information.

They say the suspect will be identified once police are able to appropriately notify his next of kin.

Investigators say the shooter walked into the Target store near 180th and West Center shooting, but was shot and killed by officers within minutes of the first 9-1-1 call.

Police say the suspect was armed with an AR-15 rifle and a large amount of ammunition.

No one else in the store was injured.

Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer and other community leaders praise the massive response by his department and other metro Omaha law enforcement to the scene.

Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert says the swift response by officers saved many lives and their actions prevented a mass casualty event.
