(Des Moines, IA) -- Des Moines residents can request up to five free trees from the Tiny Trees Program.

The program allows residents to plant trees on private property to further grow the city’s urban canopy.

A form to request the free saplings and a list of options is now open on the city's website.

Orders must be placed by April 28. Trees can be picked up at Polk County River Place from 8 a.m. to noon on May 13.

The Tiny Trees Program has distributed tens of thousands of trees since it began in 2017.
