(Omaha, NE) -- A plea deal is agreed upon for a former Omaha Public Schools security guard accused of sexually assaulting a student.
Tuesday morning, 24 year old Carlos Ornelas-Ramirez pleaded no contest in Sarpy County Court to 1st degree sexual assault of a child. In exchange for the no contest plea, a 3rd degree sexual assault of a child charge against Ornelas-Ramirez was dismissed.
In 2021, students at Pawnee Elementary School reported that a security guard, Ornelas-Ramirez, may have sexually assaulted a student after school hours in a portable classroom. An investigation was launched, Ornelas-Ramirez was subsequently arrested and held on $2.5 million bond.
Ornelas-Ramirez is set to be sentenced in May, he faces between 1 and 50 years in prison.
