Iowa Nurse Sanctioned for Adopting Patient's Baby

(Waverly, IA) -- An Iowa nurse who adopted her patient's baby is being sanctioned by the Iowa Board of Nursing. 43-year-old Miriam Simon worked with the birth mother of the child while at the obstetrics unit at Decorah’s Winneshiek Medical Center in September of 2021. She is charged with violating Iowa laws in regards to initiating a relationship with a patient and violating the privacy rights of a patient according to a disciplinary order. Simon will have to undergo 30 hours of continuing education and also is required to complete a three-day boundaries and ethics course.
