(Des Moines, IA) -- Two drivers are charged with drag racing and speeding after being clocked this week going 111 miles per hour on Interstate 35. Iowa State Patrol Sergeant Alex Dinkla says a trooper spotted the drivers on I-35 near Mills Civic Parkway in West Des Moines Monday night after 10:30. The trooper stopped one driver, who was highly intoxicated and impaired. That driver was charged with OWI in addition to drag racing and speeding. The second driver sped away but was arrested later.

Sergeant Dinkla says law enforcement started noticing a trend of excessive speed during the pandemic lockdowns in 2020. He says unfortunately the trend has continued. He says officers see people driving a high rate of speed at all hours of the day.
