Man Charged In West Des Moines Hit & Run

(West Des Moines, IA) -- A West Des Moines man is charged in a hit-and-run case, that left a pedestrian with life-threatening injuries. Police say 35-year-old Zaccary Sandvig is accused of hitting 49-year-old Lonny Kurshbaum, of Lucas, Iowa in the 52-hundred block of Ashworth Road at 2:14 a.m. on October 16th. Police say Sandvig then drove away.

Kirschbaum received continued medical treatment and did survive the incident.

West Des Moines Police completed a nearly 4-month-long investigation, and this (Tuesday) morning Sandvig on the on the following criminal charges:

Leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious injury – Aggravated Misdemeanor

Serious injury by vehicle while under the influence – Class D Felony

Serious injury by vehicle in a reckless manner – Class D Felony

Sandvig was transported by West Des Moines Police to the Polk County Jail.
