(Undated) -- Iowa has the 6th highest overall taxes in the country. That's according to WalletHub, which made a list comparing state and local taxes in each state to the U.S. average. WalletHub says Iowa's taxes are 23.6% higher than average taxes across the country. WalletHub says the state with the lowest taxes is Alaska and the state with the highest is Illinois.
