(Des Moines, IA) -- A giant palm tree is outgrowing the Des Moines Botanical Garden's 70-foot dome.
The Botanical Garden says its Roystonea regia, commonly known as a Cuban royal palm, will be removed on March 20. The tree's fronds are touching the conservatory roof, which poses a safety risk if enough pressure is applied.
They're asking visitors to stop by a final time, then share photos of the tree using the hashtag #frondfarewell.
The Cuban royal palm has been part of their collection for more than a decade.
