(Des Moines, IA) -- The Animal Rescue League of Iowa is caring for four horses, taken from a property near Keokuk in southeast Iowa. The ARL says the horses were found starving, and one had lost vision. One of the four horses collapsed in the horse trailer during the drive from Keokuk to Des Moines and is being cared for at the Iowa State University vet hospital. The ARL says it is not known if the horse will survive.
Another horse is stable at the ARL's Second Chance Ranch and is on a special feeding program to safely regain weight.
The ARL says all the horses are undersocialized and will need behavioral rehabilitation as well.
