(Davenport, IA) -- The city of Davenport is planning ahead for spring flooding.
The city announced different sets of plans yesterday based on the water levels the Mississippi River could reach.
Sandbags are being prepared to use as temporary barriers. There are 80,000 on hand with some being available to the public.
Additionally, the city has 13,500 lineal feet of temporary barriers meant to protect travel routes and infrastructure up to 23 feet.
Forecasters are predicting an 80% chance of reaching a major flood stage of 18 feet and a 50% percent chance of reaching 20 feet.
In 2019 the Mississippi River reached a record 22.7 feet.
