(Carter Lake, IA) -- An unusual snowfall has people on social media talking. Fluffy snowballs fell Friday in Carter Lake, Iowa, just north of Omaha and Council Bluffs. A picture on the Iowa Storm Chasers Network shows a layer of small snowballs in a back yard. Carter Lake commenters say it sounded like sleet as it fell, but looked more like fluffy snowballs.
It has a name: Graupel. Pronounced, "GRAU-puhl."
