(Ames, IA) -- Today is National Agriculture Day.
Iowa State University Extension says it's a day dedicated to one of Iowa's powerhouse industries.
The celebration is a project of the Agriculture Council of America, an organization composed of leaders in the agriculture, food and fiber communities dedicated to increasing the public awareness of agriculture’s vital role in society.
State agriculture supports nearly one million jobs and has a more than 200 billion dollar economic output.
The National Ag Day program began in 1973, and includes a weeklong celebration that is part of National Agriculture Week, March 21-27.
The theme for National Agriculture Day 2023 is “Growing a Climate for Tomorrow.”
The Iowa State College Ag plans to celebrate with a barbecue today.
