The Papio-Missouri River Natural Resources District will open all access sites to the Elkhorn River at 9:00 a.m. Friday.
The NRD says the opening is a day early because April 1st, the usual opening date, falls on a weekend.
The Elkhorn Access Sites are:
-Elkhorn Crossing, at the intersection of 252nd St. and Bennington Road;
-West Maple Road, at West Maple, northeast of Waterloo;
-Graske Crossing, southeast corner of West Dodge Road, west of 204th St.
High river levels occasionally force the Papio NRD to temporarily close the river access sites for safety purposes.
Park closures for Elkhorn River sites kick in when the river gauge at Waterloo reads a stage of five feet or greater.
Also, the NRD says ramps may need to be cleaned of silt, and debris and inspected before reopening.
