(Davenport, IA) -- The Mississippi River is now expected to crest in Dubuque Saturday, April 29th. The river is expected to crest at around 21.6 feet in the Quad Cities either late Sunday, April 30th, or early Monday, May 1st. National Weather Service Hydrologist Matt Wilson says the crest will likely be between 21.3 and 21.9, around one foot lower than the record crest in 2019. He says any remaining snow melt in Minnesota and Wisconsin should not have a significant impact on the river crest, but could prolong the recession.
Wilson says it took about a week for the river levels to reach major flood stage, and it'll likely take at least that long before the river falls below flood stage.
