(Des Moines, IA) -- Farmers in Iowa will begin paying fees on corn, soybean, and other grain sales for a state fund that helps cover grower losses.
According to a press release from the Iowa Department of Agriculture, the Iowa Grain Indemnity Fund will be reinstated on July 1st.
The department says the board that oversees the fund voted to reinstate it after three elevators filed for bankruptcy in the last two years.
The Iowa Department of Ag says it's the first time the fees have been triggered since 1989.
