(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- Kirkwood Community College has named its next president. Kristie Fisher is currently president of Iowa Valley Community College in Marshalltown. She's served two previous stints at Kirkwood working for the foundation and director of special projects. Fisher will be the 6th president of Kirkwood.
“I am thrilled and honored to be named the next president of this great institution,” said Fisher. “As a graduate of Kirkwood, and having served in various roles for the college in my professional career, I know firsthand how much of an impact it has on our region. Kirkwood changes lives. I’ve seen it with my own eyes and even experienced it myself. I have a special place in my heart for this college. After being away for a number of years, it feels like I’m coming home and it’s very exciting.”
Fisher holds a PhD in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Iowa State University. In addition, she also earned both an MBA and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from the University of Iowa. She started her college academic career at Kirkwood, graduating with an Associate of Arts degree.
The Kirkwood Board of Trustees named Fisher as the next president of the institution following an extensive nationwide search, which began in late January.
Fisher will succeed current Kirkwood President Lori Sundberg who is retiring in the fall.
