(Des Moines, IA) -- 15 Iowa school districts are receiving a combined $11.5 million in federal funds to replace 32 school buses with electric models.
“The Clean School Bus Program saves Iowa school districts millions of dollars,” said State Auditor Rob Sand. “It also shows that when lawmakers from both parties work together, they are more likely to create real solutions that put our kids and our communities on the right path.”
Funds for the program come from the 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The Clean School Bus Program has awarded nearly $920 million across 397 school districts nationwide, replacing 2,490 buses.
Sand encourages Iowa schools to apply for the second round of funding, where awardees are eligible for a piece of around $400 million.
School district officials interested in the clean, zero-emissions school bus program should email cleanschoolbus@epa.gov. The deadline to apply is August 22, 2023.
