DES MOINES, Iowa -- Widespread rain last week is easing drought conditions in Iowa.
This week's National Drought Monitor map now shows no drought in much of Central and more of Eastern Iowa.
Much-needed rain in Northwest Iowa reduced the severity of ongoing drought, dropping Woodbury County out of the worst conditions.
That part of the state is still the hardest hit after months of below-normal rain fall.
Just over 35 percent of the state has no drought--up from 25 percent last week.
The months of May, June and July are typically the wettest in Iowa, averaging an inch of rain a week.
