(Des Moines, IA) -- Raw milk sales are now legal in Iowa.
The proposal allowing Iowans to buy unpasteurized milk also known as "raw milk" is now law.
Under previous law, only Grade "A" pasteurized milk was to be sold in Iowa.
Raw milk producers will be able to begin selling the product starting July 1.
However, not just anyone with a cow will be able to sell milk.
The animals will need to have yearly veterinary checkups, and the bacteria count of the milk must be measured monthly.
The proposal was one of 10 bills signed into law Thursday.
Other new laws would increase penalties for the sexual exploitation of a minor, domestic abuse, ransomware crimes, and more.
