Iowa Medicare will cover gender transitioning treatment

(Des Moines, IA) -- Iowans on Medicaid will continue to get coverage for gender transitioning medical treatment. A new law would have banned the coverage, but a lower court said the law violates the Iowa Civil Rights Act.

The Iowa State Supreme Court decided this week it will not hear the case asking it to overturn the lower court ruling.

That means the lower court ruling stands, the law is struck down, and Medicaid will continue to cover gender transitioning medical treatment in Iowa.
