(Springfield, IL) -- The Illinois Department of Natural Resources and the Illinois Conservation Police are encouraging people to be safe while boating during the Memorial Day weekend.
they say boaters should wear life jackets anytime they're on the water and only operate boats while sober.
Last year, there were 52 reported boat accidents on Illinois waters, resulting in six deaths and 40 injuries.
