ISU Expert: Not Much Wiggle Room For Politicians In Debt Ceiling Talks

(Des Moines, IA) -- One Iowa State University political science professor sees a number of pathways to avert a national default with-OUT a deal, but all of them would be risky for the politicians involved, including President Joe Biden.

Professor Mack Shelley at ISU says "If Biden were to invoke the 14th amendment, it would be challenged instantly in federal court."

He says the end-around by Democrats in the House would be very risky for any Republican House members if they signed onto it.

The Democrats would need five of them.

Shelley says Biden might elect to issue debt on his own by borrowing from entitlement trust funds like Social Security...traditionally seen as one of the riskier moves in politics.
