Multiple People Rescued From Partially Collapsed Davenport, IA Building

(Davenport, IA) -- Davenport Fire Chief Michael Carlsten says workers have been going thru a partially collapsed six-story building, looking for survivors. Eight people have been rescued by fire officials as of Monday afternoon. Authorities say another 12 people left the building Sunday night. No deaths have been reported.

Crews were called to 324Main Street just before 5 p.m. due to a report of a building collapse. Since then, crews from Davenport Fire, Police, and Public Works have been on scene to secure the area.

WQAD reports the the cause of the collapse is unknown at this time.  Davenport's director of development and neighborhood services Rich Oswald says work was being done on the building's exterior at the time of the collapse. WQAD reports there had been reports of bricks falling from the building.

St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, located at 417 N Main St. in Davenport, is serving as a reunification point with the Red Cross and medics at the location to assist.
