(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- Scammers are calling Iowans, claiming to be local law enforcement officers.
The Cedar Rapids Police Department says people are impersonating their officers, calling residents, and asking for donations.
A local pastor told police about this variant of the scam, where the callers claim to be helping widows and orphans.
Legitimate financial institutions will not ask for account numbers or passwords.
CRPD does have a charitable foundation, but they say to hang up on these scam calls.
