(Franklin County, IA) -- A man is dead after being shot by a northern Iowa sheriff's deputy. Investigators say it happened last (Tuesday) night in Sheffield. The Franklin County Sheriff's Office says deputies were called to 1124 W. Gilman Street in Sheffield around 9:40 p.m. and encountered a man who was pointing a weapon at a vehicle and at deputies.
The Sheriff's Office says deputies ordered the man to drop the weapon, but he refused and a deputy shot him once. Medical personnel responded but the man died. No officers were injured.
The name of the deceased will be released at a later time after notification of relatives.
