(Des Moines, IA) -- There is a slight risk for severe weather Saturday, June 24th. The National Weather Service says there could be chances for widespread showers and thunderstorms. The first chance is in the morning, the second is later in the day or night. Forecasters say exact timing and severity are uncertain.

The NWS says some storms Saturday may be severe with winds and hail the main hazards, though a tornado or two cannot be ruled out. The threat for severe weather is expected to ease Sunday, with some lingering storms possible north and east Sunday morning.

Forecasters say any amount of rain would be welcome given the dry conditions. This week's U-S Drought Monitor map shows worsening drought conditions all of Iowa, the lone exception in northern Iowa's Dickinson County.
