Small Plane Crashes Near Eastern Iowa Airport

(Linn County, Iowa) -- An investigation is underway after a small plane crash landed just before 9 o'clock this (Saturday) morning in Cedar Rapids. The Linn County Sheriff's Office says the pilot, 50-year-old Vijay Pisani was not injured. The sheriff's office says Pisani said he was flying an experimental aircraft (Berkut 540) on its maiden voyage, when the plane lost power and the pilot was unable to make it back to the airport for an emergency landing. Pisani says has he attempted to land on C Street Road he clipped a road sign, shearing off a wing and causing the plane to go into the west ditch, coming to rest in a driveway at 9100 C Street Road in rural Cedar Rapids.

The Sheriff's Office says there was a minor fuel leak, but no fire. Part of C Street was closed for about three hours.
