(Des Moines, IA) -- Central Iowa is getting ready to host thousands of bike riders next week. The RAGBRAI ride rolls into Ames Tuesday, July 25th for an overnight stay. Main campsites will be located at Brookside Park, around Jack Trice Stadium/Hilton Coliseum area & Towers. Ames Police are reminding residents to expect some traffic delays. The thousands of bikers will travel from Ames to Des Moines on Wednesday, July 26th.
Des Moines Police are assigning more than 100 officers to the route and more for RAGBRAI entertainment events that evening. The cost to the Department is an estimated $200,000.
Sergeant Paul Parezik says with thousands of extra people in the city, there could be some traffic issues. He's encouraging residents to look at maps and make plans to avoid areas where the bicyclists will be traveling.
RAGBRAI begins Sunday, July 23rd in Sioux City and ends in Davenport, Saturday, July 29th.
