(Washington, D.C.) -- Iowa U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa is joining a bipartisan effort to review non-profit hospitals' use of their tax exempt status.
Grassley is one of several U.S. Senators calling on the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration and the IRS to review non-profit hospitals' use of their tax-exempt status. The senators say they've seen recent reports suggesting some non-profit hospitals have used their tax exempt status to restrict care and increase patient costs. Grassley, a Republican, is partnering with Democratic Senators Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Raphael Warnock of Georgia, as well as fellow Republican Bill Cassidy of Louisiana.
