(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- It's been three years since a devastating derecho blew through Cedar Rapids destroying 30-percent of the city's tree canopy. But a plan is underway to replace those trees and residents can help. Carol Teator with the city's ReLeaf Plan says it's important for residents to plant trees as 85-percent of tree loss in Cedar Rapids happened on private land. The ReLeaf Plan goal is to plant 42,000 new trees within ten years. So far, they are ahead of schedule with 6,500 planted. Vouchers are available for residents wanting to plant trees on their property at TreesForever.org/releaf.
