(Marion, IA) -- The City of Marion has installed two automated traffic cams, at two high-traffic intersections. One is at Highway 100 and East Post Road, theother is at Highway 13 and Highway 151. The cameras detect both speeding and red-light violations.
A 30-day warning period begins today, which means drivers will get a warning instead of a citation. Warnings or tickets will be issued for 11 mph over the posted speed limit.
Marion also has a mobile camera to enforce speed violations. The mobile unit will be set up based on speeding complaints from residents or other known public safety risks such as construction zones. A photograph of the mobile unit is on the Police Department’s website. When the unit is deployed, its location will be publicized no less than 12 hours in advance via the Police Department’s social media accounts.
Citations are issued to the registered owner of the vehicle and they are responsible for either paying the fine or contesting it.
