DES MOINES, Iowa -- Hot, dry weather is expanding drought conditions across Iowa.
This week's U.S. Drought Monitor Map shows new areas of extreme drought in Northeast Iowa, and an expansion of severe drought across Northern and Northeast, and Eastern Iowa.
There's still extreme drought in Southeast and a small part of Western Iowa.
Parts of Central, Northwest, and Southwest Iowa that saw heavy rain a couple of weeks ago are still in near-drought, with a couple of drought-free patches.
Data for the new map was gathered through Tuesday of this week and doesn't reflect the last few days of record-setting heat across Iowa.
