National Study: Iowa Among Top Ten States for Obesity

(Iowa) -- A recent national study ranks Iowa among the top ten states with the number residents who are obese.

Online fitness resource Total Shape analyzed data from the Centers for Disease Control for all 50 states from 2019 through 2021. The data show that 47.64% of Iowans are obese, making Iowa's population the 8th most obese state in the nation.

According to the study, the top 10 states in the U.S. with the most obese populations include:

  1. West Virginia
  2. Mississippi
  3. Alabama
  4. Oklahoma
  5. Arkansas
  6. Kentucky
  7. Louisiana
  8. Iowa
  9. South Dakota
  10. Tennessee

The study finds the state with the least obese population is Colorado.
